Sunday Service, 10:30 AM, 617 South Main Street, Lexington, VA
Bible Study, 9:00 AM
Welcome to God’s house at Good Shepherd. We strive to live by Jesus’ command: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31). Just as Jesus first called all humankind in grace and love, so too we offer you a seat at God’s table. We all are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27), so we believe God loves people of all ages, abilities, and races. God loves all of us, including those who are transgender, non-binary, queer, or straight. God loves our many types of families, in their immense diversity. God loves us without regard for our education, wealth, or faith. Join us in worship today; join us in welcoming a newcomer tomorrow. United, we reflect God’s infinite image!
At Good Shepherd we are imagining news ways of being church, new ways of being community, rooted in Jesus’ love. We are welcoming people as they are, meeting them where they are in the community, and inviting our neighbors to participate in the life of our ministry. We offer a Sunday school for smaller children, youth group for teens, and campus ministry program for students and cadets attending Virginia Military Institute, Washington & Lee University, and Dabney Lancaster Community College. We offer a host of other ministries including youth Bible study, adult Bible Study, theology reading group, Shepherd Stitchers, and beyond. We also invite people simply to join us for Sunday worship and take their time in getting involved.
Good Shepherd became a Reconciling in Christ congregation on Day of Pentecost, May 20, 2018, and updated our statement at our February 2, 2025 annual Congregation Meeting.
Welcome to God’s house at Good Shepherd. We strive to live by Jesus’ command: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31). We welcome you no matter your race, culture, ethnicity, age, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation, physical and mental abilities, socioeconomic position, family status, background, or where you are in your faith journey.
God loves all of us. God loves us without regard for our education, wealth, or faith. For the sake of the gospel, we renounce antisemitism and all forms of religious intolerance, and we commit ourselves to embracing the work of anti-racism, social and economic justice, and environmental care. Join us in worship today; united, we reflect God’s infinite image!
Lessons from Dietrich Bonhoeffer in a House Divided and a World on Fire
We held a 5 week study exploring the life and theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and the lessons we can use as we live at the intersection of faith and civic life today. Bonhoeffer was a Lutheran pastor and theologian living in Nazi Germany, who eventually joined the resistance and was arrested and killed before the end of WWII. This curriculum was compiled by Dr. Lori Brandt Hale, an internationally renowned Bonhoeffer scholar and president of the International Bonhoeffer Society – English Language Section. LAMPa and the International Bonhoeffer Society – English Language Section offer this curriculum as a gift to congregations to inspire deeper conversation and discernment about how we live as disciples.
We are a Lutheran church affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Overview of ELCA Teaching.
Sunday School craft

I understand you are honoring my father Henry Snider this Sunday on February 11 as one of the “Saints Among Us.” Unfortunately I am in California and will be unable to attend. Please extend my thanks to all at Good Shepherd for the way they welcomed us to the community in 1976. Mom and Dad were very active and both my sister and I were married there. It is and will always be my “home church” and I truly appreciate the honor you are giving my father. The entire family has been supportive and loving to our family and I wanted to express my gratitude. If by chance you see this before Sunday please extend my thanks to my father and to Good Sherpherd for always being the guide to God.
Sincerely,
Carla Snider Fore
Thank you for your note. We look forward to lifting up your father and all our Saints in our Midst this Sunday.
In Christ,

To the Good Shepherd Youth Group
From Wes and Annemarie Roberts
Thank you so much for your delightful Valentine’s greeting. To be remembered from so far away means a great deal to us. We are happy to see the renewal of the Sunday School and Youth programs and are so pleased to be included in your thoughts and prayers. Likewise, you are included in our thoughts and prayers. We wish you “all things bright and beautiful” and ask for all God’s blessings on your endeavors.

My grandparents were founding members of Good Shepherd. Congratulations and blessings upon becoming an RIC congregation. I am sure they would be proud of your inclusiveness. Rev. Dr. Carolyn Hellerich.
