Little Free Pantry: we offer canned food and personal items at our little free pantry located in front of our church building. Our youth group is responsible for stocking the pantry. Donations welcome. Checks may be made payable to “Good Shepherd Lutheran Church” with “Little Free Pantry” in the memo line and mailed to:
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1031, Lexington, VA, 24450
Ice Cream Social: Every fall we invite our neighbors to join us on the church lawn for free ice cream, live bluegrass, lawn games, and invite our local Fire Department and Police Department to offer safety demonstrations for kids.
Partnership with Project Horizon: we work together with our neighboring agency who serve as advocates and run a shelter for reducing dating, domestic, sexual violence in Buena Vista, Lexington, and Rockbridge County, VA.
Blessing of the Bicycles: In the spring we organize the Blessing of the Bicycles which involves a community ride for kids, youth, and adults. We stop for a blessing at a downtown church and then ride back to Good Shepherd for lunch, snacks, and local beer.
Shepherd Stitchers: members of Good Shepherd participate in group sewing projects that benefit people in need both closer to home and further afield.
Lenten Soup Suppers: Wednesdays in Lent we gather for homemade soup and bread and Holden Evening Prayer.
Community Clean-up: Every spring our congregation, including our youth group, participates in a community clean-up, picking up trash and debris along roadways.
Social Justice & Worship: We have organized Anti-Racism Prayer Vigils in response to events in Charlottesville, as well as responded to events in Charleston and beyond. We completed the discernment process and became a Reconciling in Christ congregation on May 20, 2018. Contact our pastor for ways to get involved in local anti-racism community work and LGBTQIA+ advocacy.
